Valentine Snowfall

I have discovered snow! It came down soft and light all afternoon gradually transforming my domain into to an eerie white blanket on the ground and in the trees and bushes. As I stepped out on my evening walk I was surprised that my feet settled in like on soft sand, but it was cold and wet. And when I stuck my nose into it for the all important sniff test I came up with a white snout. As I tended to business, FoPa said “Don’t eat the yellow snow” and laughed. As we walked, the light snowfall would salt my black coat requiring an occasional shake.

The next morning I awoke to find the ground deeper in the snow stuff. I didn’t want to venture too far for my morning constitutional in the back yard before breakfast. After breakfast I enjoyed a good walk with my foster family. The sun had come out and added a glisten to the snow all around.

Sometimes a walk can be routine. But I like to stay alert for the chance to meet a new dog, or their family, or even the local cat out for a stroll. But today I was told to keep my eyes out for the ‘snow bunny’. Now I’ve heard of the Easter bunny and I was taught to run for the 'money bunny’ when I was young, but I’ve never seen a ‘snow bunny’. So, I’m lookin’ and sniffin’ and hoping to see this new critter. Then, just as the walk is about to be over, I see him! He hopped out of a hedgerow and sat in the snow at the edge of his cover. He took little, short hops as he sniffed the surroundings. His fur looked so soft and warm and just the right color to almost blend into the surroundings. But he didn’t escape my keen eyes before returning to the safety of his hedgerow.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

And maybe if you look hard (or take me for a walk someday), you’ll see a snow bunny too!

Rain and Cold, UGGH!

It seems like it is forever raining and cold in these parts. When I lived in Florida it was warm and sunshiny, there were blue skies and puffy white clouds. People would talk about Georgia: its pretty green, rolling hills, but that they had a drought up north. Well let me tell you --- they got some of their facts wrong! I ain’t seen no drought! And with all the rain I’m not getting any travel time to see those pretty rolling hills. All it does is rain, rain, rain. And it’s cold outside, like crazy cold. It’s a good thing that I don’t require a long walk to take care of the basic necessities. When it’s raining, just find me a patch of grass and I’m good to go, and fine to get back inside. Longer walks are an occasional treat, but they are scarce these days.

Thankfully, FoPa (foster papa didn’t appreciate my French in the last blog) figured out this wood stove thingy. For the longest time he didn’t realize that you have to put wood in it and light a match. But, boy does it make my lounge bed cozy warm! I just curl up, close my eyes, and dream about all the wonderful warm days of spring that lie ahead. The only thing missing in my dream is what you look like (my 'forever' family, that is).

On these rainy days I’ve also discovered the extraordinary pleasure of a ‘bully stick’. Just check out the video and you can see and hear the contentment of that new found wonder chew! I sure am glad Teddy Roosevelt invented it (He’s the one that said “Bully! Give ‘em a big stick!”).
